On average over the past five years, we have sponsored 4 girls per year in Malawi.
The following story is from one of our beneficiaries, highlighting her ambition and the obstacles that prevented her from completing secondary school before she was sponsored.
To protect her identity, the name of the girl has been changed.
Leoni’s Story
“In my country many girls do not go to school due to vulnerability e.g. lack of school fees and other basic needs including protection. I dream about sponsoring girls in my community as a way of helping them and will achieve this once I become a Doctor in future”
Leoni is 16 from a family of four. She is from a single-parent household since her father passed away a few years ago. She never misses class, is punctual for lessons and whenever a subject teacher is absent without leaving any work for the class, Leoni always goes to the library to read on her won without being forced to do so.
However, she has faced stressed induced health problems due to a lack of school necessities and subsequently, this affected her academic performance
“Sponsorship has paid my school fees which my mother could not afford. One of my biggest achievements is that I have managed to reach form three with the help of the CGEF”
